Getting the opportunity to 3D print numerous DOT STUDIO projects allowed me to engage with their designs in a detailed, hands-on way. Using the online printing software, I was able to break down and visualize every component of each project, deepening my understanding of the design process. While I had previous experience with 3D printing in school, working with the printers at DOT has truly helped me sharpen my skills and expand my knowledge of the craft.

Mary’s advice to new leaders is clear and simple: Don’t be afraid to work hard. Learn new things every day. Be honest with yourself and others. Step out of your comfort zone. Always strive to be better today than yesterday. It’s a philosophy she’s lived—and one she leaves behind as a blueprint for others.

Our initial design concept drew from the vernacular architecture of 19th-century wood barns common in Central Texas. These structures, historically rooted in community and simplicity, aligned perfectly with Western Academy’s mission of cultivating connection among students, nature, and the wider community.
