Will’s Journey: From Intern to Principal at Heights Venture

Born in Bermuda and raised in the Chicago area, Will graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor’s in Architecture. His first job out of school was with Heights Venture. From his role as an intern in 1999 to his position as Principal now, Will has grown alongside the firm. 

Will is known for his extensive experience across multiple sectors, including grocery stores, fitness centers, charter schools, office spaces, restaurants, and general retail. His twenty-five-plus years of Architectural experience encompass all phases of architectural design, from pre-development and documentation to contract administration and post-construction evaluation.

Based in the Dallas office, Will leads a team of efficient, experienced, and tech-savvy professionals with nearly 70 years of combined expertise. The team excels in all phases of architecture, from conceptual design to construction management.   Will’s team strives to maintain its client base while still focusing on growth and client diversity. His team’s deep experience and client-focused mentality are evident in all that they do.

Will is also a mentor to his team, especially the younger designers and Architects. Kyle Gage, one such member of Will’s team, says, “Will is the kind of leader who takes time to listen, carefully weighs options, and provides thoughtful guidance. He is always there as a resource, whether it is architectural details, career advice, or navigating tough situations. He champions his team, encourages growth, and leads by example, never shying away from hard work or giving his time to help others.” In addition to mentorship, Will believes family life and personal time are significant for well-rounded professionals. As such, he tries to ensure that his team maintains a healthy work-life balance.

Furthermore, believing that the most successful projects come from collaboration, Will values teamwork among owners, architects, contractors, and clients to create spaces that are both functional and impactful. Will believes “the greatest satisfaction comes from seeing a completed project being used as intended.”

Throughout Will’s career, his team’s portfolio has included notable clients such as Albertsons/Tom Thumb/Randalls, Brookshire’s, Brookshire Brothers, Fiesta, LA Fitness, Wendy’s, and CareNow – to name just a few. With a commitment to excellence, Will continues to help shape dynamic and effective spaces across various industries and promote excellence in his team and Heights Venture at large.
