Meet Helen Bailey: A Legacy of Leadership and Innovation in Campus Planning

We’re excited to welcome Helen Bailey to the Heights Venture team, bringing with her a wealth of experience, leadership, and passion from over two decades of service at the University of North Texas (UNT). As she embarks on this new chapter, we wanted to share her incredible journey and celebrate the expertise she now brings to our architecture studio.

Before joining Heights Venture, Helen served as the Campus Architect and Director of Facilities Planning, Design & Construction (FPDC) at UNT. Under her leadership, the FPDC grew from a small, five-person team to a dynamic in-house A/E/C firm with over 35 employees. This team managed a wide range of services, including architecture, engineering, interior design, and construction supervision. Helen’s ability to oversee projects from concept to completion made her role both exciting and challenging, with tens of millions of dollars in public works projects managed each year.

Helen recalls her time at UNT as one of growth and transformation. When she started in 2001 as a Project Manager, the university had around 28,000 students, 72 buildings, and a much smaller Facilities Planning team. Over her tenure, the campus grew to 184 buildings and served a student body of 44,500. Her team played a crucial role in designing and overseeing projects, including the development of the Frisco Campus and its first building, Frisco Landing, which opened in 2023.

Over the years, Helen contributed to over 2,000 projects, from small office renovations to large, multi-million-dollar developments. Her vision was always focused on maintaining the character and beauty of the UNT campus while embracing modern designs that reflected the university’s growth and ambition.

Now, at Heights Venture, Helen brings this wealth of experience back to the architecture studio. "It’s rewarding to be back in a collaborative environment with old and new friends," she says. "I’m excited to continue learning new things while applying my experience to help the firm succeed." Though she’s now in a part-time role, Helen is thrilled to stay engaged with the field she loves, balancing work with more time for family.

"Helen has a wealth of knowledge and real-world experience. We are excited to have her join the Heights Venture team where she can share that experience with the younger generation," said Scott Roselius, CEO of Heights Venture.  "Her experience with educational facilities and large, multi-faceted projects, in particular, is a tremendous asset to the team. As she continues her career, her expertise, vision, and leadership will undoubtedly enrich our firm and our projects for years to come."
